Follow this structure when preparing MCQs in a text editor or MS
Word (saved as .txt with UTF-8 encoding).
Format Rules
- Question number (1, 2, 3, etc.), followed by dot (.)
- Clinical vignette, followed by lead-in (Which of the following...?) without line break
- Options A, B, C, D each on separate lines, followed by dot (.)
- ANSWER followed by colon (:)
- CORRECT followed by colon (:) - Optional: explanation shown if answered correctly
- INCORRECT followed by colon (:) - Optional: explanation shown if answered incorrectly
Example Format
1. A preterm neonate presents with rapid breathing and poor feeding.
Auscultation of the precordium reveals a continuous murmur below the left clavicle.
Which of the following is the most likely underlying cause of his symptoms and signs?
A. Respiratory distress syndrome
B. Patent ductus arteriosus
C. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome
D. Ventricular septal defect
ANSWER: B
CORRECT: PDA is common in preterm infants and presents with continuous murmur, respiratory distress, and feeding difficulties due to left-to-right shunt.
INCORRECT: RDS typically presents immediately after birth with grunting and retractions. HLHS presents with cyanosis and shock after ductus closure. VSD usually has a harsh holosystolic murmur.
Important Notes
Encoding: Save files as UTF-8 to ensure special

Line Breaks: Use proper line breaks between
questions (blank line recommended).
Spacing: No extra spaces between ANSWER, CORRECT,
INCORRECT and their colons.
